5 Things Every Woman Should Know About Her Vagina

In the last few years people have become very conscious about that they put on and in their body. Organic and natural have become the new way of life. From our skin to hair to our diet everything is about going all natural. But, what about those parts of us those are important but don’t get their due. Half the world population has a vagina but not a lot of us know about it. A fascinating yet misunderstood part, the vagina is really interesting which is why we wanted to share five facts that you simply must know about your vagina!

The Name

When one says the word vagina, we assume they mean the external and internal organs that constitute the female reproductive system. However, this is incorrect. The vagina is a muscular canal that goes from your cervix to your hymen and ends there. When you’re thinking about the external genitalia which include the clitoris, pubis and labia; you need to use the word vulva. The vagina also varies in size. For example, the canal can range from around 2.7 to over 3 inches. This size increases during arousal to almost 5 inches!

Vaginal Intercourse

If you’ve ever watched a sex scene on television or in a movie, you might be surprised at how quickly the woman climaxes and almost exclusively due to vaginal intercourse. Believing this has made many women to feel as if something is either wrong with them or they are doing something wrong to not achieve the Big O. Worry not ladies! Did you know that up to 65% of heterosexual women cannot climax solely from vaginal intercourse? There are so many other ways to achieve an orgasm that this really isn’t a big deal. For example, the clitoris has over 8,000 nerve endings so if penetration isn’t doing it for you- we suggest you move there!

Cleaning the Vagina

Many people believe that you need to clean or douche the vagina regularly to prevent infections. However, the truth is actually quite the opposite. The vagina is a self-cleaning organ which releases its own fluids that clean and lubricate itself. This is to maintain the very specific pH balance that allows your vagina to thrive. By over cleaning your vagina, you may actually experience infections like thrush, so, it’s safer to use a simple, natural cleanser rather than anything as invasive as a chemical wash/soap or douching.

Vaginas can Work Out

Next time you go to the gym, don’t forget about your vagina! Although regular sex is very beneficial to your vagina (and the rest of you), there are other ways you can keep your lady parts healthy. Kegel exercises or pelvic floor exercises are great ways to keep your vagina healthy and happy. Think of these exercises as an anti-aging cream for your vagina. Kegels can also make sex more pleasurable and childbirth easier while tightening your vagina.

Your Hymen and Virginity

For centuries, people have believed that the hymen was the only way to prove a woman’s virginity. By now you must have realized that this is completely false! The hymen is a thin piece of tissue that sits at the opening of your vagina. Each woman’s hymen is different and can be torn in unique ways. Some hymens have holes large enough for a tampon whereas others can be so thin that it may seem like there is no hymen at all. The hymen has absolutely no connection to sexual intercourse because for some people, this hymen may be stretched through other things like riding a bike, putting in a tampon or playing sports.
